Assignment for Week 2:

Everyone should read Chapters 1, 2 & 9 BEFORE class next week, read the web-sites on the Chapter 1 quiz, and complete the related take-home quizzes. Bring completed quizzes to class Tuesday of Week 2.
People assigned to learning disabilities or ADHD should complete the work for their projects. See link for details of the projects and to determine to which disability you are assigned. Annotations for the child and adolescent books and web-sites should be submitted to Terry BEFORE class begins next week.
WEEK 2

Content:    Review of laws, teachers' roles, collaborating with professionals and families
                    Learning disabilities: characteristics and accommodations
                    ADHD: characteristics and accommodations

Due today:

You will complete your special education portfolio before class next week and bring it with you for a workshop. The portfolioshould contain:
    1) A title page and table of contents
    2) All your corrected take-home quizzes
    3) Annotations of the child and adolescent books you read and of the web-sites you reviewed
    4) The summary pages you completed for the disability you presented in your small group - characteristics and common accommodations
    5 )The lesson plan you adapted for the disability you presented in your small group
    6) Four revised lesson plans from last quarter that demonstrate new accommodations for:
  1. Receptive communication disorder
  2. Specific learning disability - you choose the type
  3. ADHD
  4. Behavioral disorder - specify the behavioral challenge
    7) A description of a unit you could use in your spring quarter placement that would introduce your students to the diversity of human abilities and challenges and that would attempt to increase students' acceptance and valuing of each other.
WEEK 5

Content:   Workshop on accommodating lesson plans for students with disabilities
