Letters for host families guidelines:

Use the following to mention these topics in your letter.
You will need two copies, handwritten on good paper and in your best French.

  1. Name, age, information about your family --do you have any brothers or sisters or children of your own. Exemple: Je suis d'une famille de 3 enfants. J'ai un frère qui habite à Chicago…

  2. Your preferences as far as living in the city --like town center or living in the country. (If you have no preference you can omit this one.) Je préfère la campagne ou la ville....

  3. Vos interêts (hobbies) Ex. Je suis artitste, Je suis sportif. J'aime faire du ski/ J'aime lire/nager/manger...

  4. En France, je voudrais voir (to see)/apprendre (to learn), faire (to do) ... your reasons for going to France, and what you want to learn.

  5. Previous travel in France or elsewhere.

  6. Niveau de langue - language level. Je suis débutant en français.

  7. La santé (health matters) if you have problems or requests. Ex: Je suis allergique à ...Ex: aux chats/aux animaux/ aux cigarettes/ à la fumé des cigarettes.

  8. If you are a vegetarian or not. Je suis végétarien/enne (Or any other strong food preferences.)

  9. J'adore les enfants/ or other preferences if you want to be in a home with or without children.

  10. Any French heritage? Mon grand-père est originaire de ...

  11. Signing off your letter: Je suis impatient(e) or (J'attends avec impatience) de vous rencontrer. (I am really looking forward to meeting you).
