Portrait of the Child Research Paper
Your research paper will be about 10-15 pages long; this paper will be peer
edited twice. The particular name of the child should be changed to insure privacy.
The inspiration for the paper will come from your community service and children
you are working with. Although the paper will be inspired by a child you are
working with in your Community Service, the Child whose portrait you will describe
could be you, your own child, or a child you know. It is best if it is a young
child.
The paper should have the following parts:
Portrait of the Child – This includes a description of physical characteristics
of the Child. Be specific about age, complexion, weight, age, clothing, etc.
Be perceptive about Child’s interaction with the world. Consider Child’s
temperament and dominant element.
In what environment you meet the child – this part also includes the description
of your Community Service. Be specific and personal; include observations, smells,
memories, your own perceptions of other adult caregivers, their philosophy of
education, etc.
What are the developmental tasks and challenges that children of the same age
have – here include your research and your own thoughts, insights and
inspirations.
Finally, what therapeutic interventions would be beneficial for the Child –
develop a story, an art project, a nature activity that would nurture a specific
need of the child.
Bibliography – have at least two books (one of them could be from our
class) and two www sources.
Start your paper with a good question. This will help you to draw in the reader
and to develop a good thesis.
