Video Project Guidelines

  1. Obtain written permission to videotape students.

  1. Acquire a digital camera, digital tape, tripod, a camera operator (in most cases your cooperating teacher), and, if at all possible, a lapel microphone. You can check out equipment from your student teaching site or from Evergreen's media loan.

  1. The Teacher Candidate (you) will then be videotaped teaching a complete lesson. Plan so that you have enough time to set up the video camera, make sure it works, and prepare the camera operator. The camera operator should focus on the teacher (you) but occasionally focus on the students.

  1. Acquire the equipment needed to view the tape: a camera and either a television or a computer, plus the cord necessary to connect the camera to the television or computer. You can simply plug the camera into a television or connect the camera to a computer which has video editing software (such as iMovie).

  1. Self-evaluate your lesson based on the Evergreen Student Teaching Rubric, Domains 2 and 3 by circling the performance level for each element. To obtain copies of the rubric you can either photocopy the appropriate pages from your Student Teaching Handbook or print the needed pages from the MIT website: go to http://www.evergreen.edu/mit and click on Student-Teaching Information and then on the Evergreen Rubric.

  1. Give the peer you are working with on this project your videotape and a copy of your lesson plan.

  1. Your peer reviewer will independently critique your videotaped lesson, also using the Evergreen Student Teaching Rubric, Domains 2 and 3 by circling the performance level for each element.

  1. Write a summative self-evaluation based on the Evergreen Student Teaching Rubric Domain 4a.

  1. Save your video footage for a project we will be doing winter quarter.
