Suggestions for writing evaluations and self-evaluations

If you choose to be part of a study group:

We could use study group meeting time on week five and week ten to read and respond to each other’s letter in the 3rd. person.  Your study group splits in triads for this work.  The activity is to read, edit, and discuss each other’s letters.  Then you would have a draft ready to email to your faculty team by week ten. You may share with faculty the copies of your first draft with two colleagues’ editorial comments.  Your work as a writer as well as a reader and respondent is important.

The letter in the 3rd. person is a primary resource for the creation of the first draft of your co-authored evaluation.  The idea is to write an evaluation of your own work for all aspects of this program for the first five weeks first; and then for the last five weeks of the quarter you have just completed.  It must be no longer than half of one page of standard text.  It must include credit equivalencies and distribution. Study groups could have two evaluation sessions each quarter.  Evaluation/Advising meetings with your faculty can take place any time during community visit time on Tuesday,  Thursday or Saturday.  At this meeting the faculty can provide you with feedback to your 3rd. person letter draft. During evaluation week, you would meet with your faculty with an edited version of your co-authored evaluation.

If you choose not to go through this assessment process, you may develop an alternative process. Having completed all aspects of this evaluation process in a timely manner results in a smooth ending of each quarter for everyone. An important assessment document you may build is a portfolio.

The academic world outside Evergreen uses a specific language to academically recognize (award credit) your learning. It is extremely important that you learn to connect this specific vocabulary to the work you do through the quarter. In the Freirian sense, after the concientizao stage, one takes her learning to the praxis level and becomes a new person. This process allows us to always be ready to demonstrate our learning at any stage.
