Hi, my name is Dan Hurd and I am a student in your
fall patience class. I have been working on developing
a small business and managing it with a website this
quarter. I have delved into the world of radio with
the hopes of it being a very good outlet for free
speech. I decided that I did not like what I had been
hearing in the news in the media, on the radio, and
how it was done, and that I too had a voice that
needed to be heard. This is all well and good but
radio is a difficult business to just jump right into.
You can go into satellite radio, or fm radio, or a
more likely candidate am; and they all have different
rules. Besides I felt there were ways that I could
improve on the business and expand the idea of radio.
With the advent of satellite radio in the past few
years, allowing an audience that is now much broader,
I felt the best thing to to would be to incorporate
the internet with it. Now everyone has a website sure.
But this is to be much more interactive. I could have
a radio station on the dial, but also a website with
radio on it. In the car, on the computer. With a much
more viewer oriented business. A very interactive site
that has opinions and interviews and speaks to a
generation of people that have a lot to say. I figure
that eventually you won't be listening to one without
the other. Thanks in part to satellite radio and our
increasing dependency on technology. It would be
expanded to include video of music and important
interviews of figures in our community and world
today. So in addition to reviewing countless business
licensing forms and rules on the radio business front,
I have taken on the web and all its intricacies. I
decided to learn HTML, or the code of the web
essentially. By learning this underlying language of
codes and letters and numbers, it allows me to create
a website solely from a word document. Perhaps you
already are aware of how to do it, but I was not. I am
very close to completing a final website for my
business, and am currently deciding on whether or not
to invest in a domain name. I imagine that I will not
put the business in to action by the end of the
quarter but I will have worked out all the legalities
of starting a business so that I could act on it if I
had the capital. I have much more depth of research
and could meet with you in the coming week to discuss
my projects together if you like. I have discussed
with a few people from class my objectives which i
will clearly state again now.
A small business
internet based radio program
A fusion of accelerated technology with radio and web
A voice to be heard
an improvement on an existing platform
aquired business skills
ability to make a website
cutting edge comical and serious banter
a business that expands it's views with listener input
abusiness that can expand
entertaining and informative
Those are my goals, and that is what I have been
working on. I recieved an e-mail and was not sure if I
am in danger of losing credit. I wanted to clarify
whether or not I am. I will not be going to peru this
year either. Thank you for your time and please reply
at your earliest convenience.
