Please answer as best as you can and email it back to us before the
end of May. Thank you.
Your Patience Team.

Your name:
Program (or project title)name:  Patience:  Music & Me
---------------------------------------------------------------------
1A. Did your program (or project)include Art? (delete what doesn't apply)
(Major emphasis, Minor emphasis or No emphasis)
Yes.  Art, specifically music, has been a major emphasis of mine in Patience.

1B. If yes, how was Art included in your program (or project)?
I am a musician/artist.  I've spent much of my time practicing and
refining my craft; namely DJing/music production.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
2A. Did your program (or project) include Science and/or Mathematics?
(Major emphasis, Minor emphasis or No emphasis)
Yes, I've studied science and math associated with making music.
2B. If yes, how was Science and/or Mathematics included in your
program (or project)?
DJing/music production involves a lot of counting and simple math, a
lot of knob-tweaking and knowing the right button to push.  The goal
is to make music sound as good as it can sound.  Knowing how the
equipment I use works and how to adjust it if need be is a science.
Time is a concept that is very important too; especially in the realm
of DJing live.  And when trying to get people dancing in a live
situation, there is a science to that which relies heavily on feeling,
but can still be quite a methodical process.  As someone who came to
Evergreen to avoid science and math, it's ironic that a lot of what
I'm doing now is related to those subjects.  I'm comfortable with that
though.  The science and math I'm doing is fun because it's a means to
a very enjoyable end; making people happy.

3A. Did your program (or project) include Humanities?
(Major emphasis, Minor emphasis or No emphasis)
Yes, definitely.  Humanities is a major emphasis of mine.
3B. If yes, how were the Humanities included in your program(or project)?
I believe art is inherently humane, no matter why you're doing it
because it's an expression of self(or selves).  My goals as an artist
are humane and people's reactions and feelings to my music are
important to me.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
4A. Did your program (or project)include Social Sciences?
(Major emphasis, Minor emphasis or No emphasis)
Yes.  Major emphasis.

4B. If yes, how were the Social Sciences included in your program(or project)?
What I am doing is a study of myself, others and how we all relate to
the world we're living in.  Ultimately, the music I make and the music
I play is a reaction and expression to those studies.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
5A. Did your program(or project) include quantitative reasoning?
(Major emphasis, Minor emphasis or No emphasis)
Yes, minor emphasis.

5B. If yes, how was quantitative reasoning included in your program(or project)?
As stated before, there is some math associated with what I do; mostly
counting.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
6A. Did your program(or project) include writing?
(Major emphasis, Minor emphasis or No emphasis)
Yes.  Minor emphasis.

6B. If yes, how was writing included in your program(or project)?
I'm experimenting with poetry and writing lyrics to go along with the
music I'm producing.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
7A. Did you use technology to present work, conduct research
(including library research), or solve problems?
(Major emphasis, Minor emphasis or No emphasis)
Yes.  Major emphasis.

7B. If yes, how did you do so?
Technology is the filter between what I feel and what I produce.  My
current setup revolves around two turntables, a mixer and a lot of
records.  I also use a computer and software to produce music.  To
make sure I convey how I truly feel, it's vital that I know how my
equipment works and more importantly, how to maximize it's potential
and get the most out of my gear.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
8A. Did your program(or project) include activities designed to
promote critical thinking?
(Major emphasis, Minor emphasis or No emphasis)
Yes.  I'm trying to elicit emotion and promote critical thinking with my art.
8B. If yes, how were such activities included in your program(or project)?
I believe art should make people react in some way.  When I play music
for people, I'm showing them how I feel.  I like to think I'm talking
to them with my music, so assuming they're listening, it's natural to
assume that they would react in some way to what I'm saying.  They
might do so audibly, physically or just think in response.  Any way is
cool with me, as long as I'm evoking some form of feeling or thinking.
I'm trying to challenge people and in turn, myself.  I'm trying to
challenge us all to think, feel and most importantly, have fun and
enjoy what this life has to offer.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
9A. Did your program(or project) make an effort to address racism,
sexism, classism, or other forms of oppression?
(Major emphasis, Minor emphasis or No emphasis)
Yes.

9B. If yes, what strategies or activities did you(or your faculty
team)use that worked well?
When I play, I try to encourage people to have fun.  Everywhere you
go, oppression is around you.  People see me because they want to
dance, not think about how messed up the world is.  At the same time
though, I'm trying to sneak in some music that will make people think
about our political and social state, but also make them move and have
a good time.  It's a fine balance getting people to dance, think and
have a good time all the meanwhile, but I'm finding that balance and
having fun doing it.
