AMANDLA AWETHU

"Amandla Awethu" was produced by the program, "British Imperialism in South Asia and South Africa," at The Evergreen State College in 1993. It was a powerful collage of scenes in dance and spoken theatre from freedom struggles in India and South Africa, scripted by students in the program. The faculty in the program were Dr. Fred Dube, an A.N.C. member in exile, and Dr. Ratna Roy. Directed by both faculty, "Amandla Awethu" drew crowds from three states. The interracial bonding among the students that scripted and performed in the production was unprecedented at The Evergreen State College.
