Arts, Environment and the Child: Walking the Wheel of the Seasons

Melanie Brenner

I have been wanting to allow you all to get to know me a little better by typing up this mini-autobiography but I have lost it three times. Four times will be enough because this time I am typing in MSWord instead of Dreamweaver so that at least I don’t have to write the whole thing over and over again each time I get kicked out. I definitely stand by the advice to save and save often when it comes to Dreamweaver.

My husband, daughter, unborn son, our cat Hershey and I moved to Olympia about 4 ½ years ago from Houston, Texas. We happily left the hot, humid weather and traffic behind, but also our loving family and friends. But I was mesmerized with this lush countryside and beautifully clean atmosphere and fell in love with Washington quickly.

Three months after settling in, our son was born very prematurely and passed on fifteen days after his birth. Some family came up for support for a short while, but we were forced to move on with our lives in a strange city and needed to find other things to focus on. So I decided to go back to college, after a very long vacation from learning, and acquire my Bachelor’s degree. I researched area schools and decided on Evergreen. I have found that although it definitely strays from the beaten path of my earlier college experiences, TESC has so much more to offer me and I couldn’t be happier with my choice.

My passions are my family and our cats (now 3); cooking; the arts with a focus on drawing, painting and colored pencil; crafts (mostly making my own greeting cards); swimming; dancing and singing (though not very well); nature walking and drawing; and watching, helping and teaching children. I also adore meeting new people and hope to get to know you all better throughout the next three seasons as we embark on this glorious class together.

Cheers and blessings, Melanie
