[edit] Domain Objectives

o As a result of this project I would like to learn more about painting with different mediums and techniques. I would also like to get a better understanding of my own art and what it means to me. I would appreciate being able to explain what my art work is to others and be able to have a better grasp on the whole picture of what I am doing with my art.

[edit] Purpose

o My purpose for this project is to further my painting abilities and refine my painting style. A secondary objective is to learn about web design and create a web site.

[edit] Main Activities

o I will work in the studio on campus and elsewhere to produce a loosely related series of paintings.

o I will produce numerous drawings within a project sketch book.

o I will expand my knowledge of color theory by reading Color Manual by Stephen sidelinger.

o I will expand my knowledge of painting and technique by reading. Books shall include Oil Painting Techniques, The Color Mixing Bible, TBA

o I will write an artist statement specific to the project.

o Short readings or videos on art history.

o Work in the computer lab and at home learning about web design and ultimately creating a website for my art and selected others art.

o Possible showing of art work in a gallery on/off campus. Determined by acquisition of space. TBD

o I will participate in art critique sessions throughout the project.

o Two field trips, possibilities will be:

 The Seattle Art Museum, SAM Rental Gallery, Seattle art galleries.

 Tacoma Art Museum, Tacoma art galleries.

 Portland Galleries.

o Number of paintings 6-10 depending on quality.

o Increased knowledge of painting mediums, techniques, and methods.

o Resources

 Studio space, Oil paint, Acrylic paint, Brushes, Painting surfaces, Objects to be painted on, Painting supplies, computer with web editing software, Library.

o Research

 I will read about color theory, Painting Techniques, and Art history. I will examine slides of art work in the library and the internet. I will attend gallery openings and art walks and discuss art with some professionals. I will analyze and critique others art work and form conclusions or statements.

o Training

 Painting demos and videos. Art history videos

o The project should be evaluated not by the quality of the finished art work but by the hours actually spent producing art/working on the project.

o Did I do the research that I proposed and was it productive.

o Class participation

o Did I complete my main objectives for the project?

o Did I experiment with painting technique and try new media?

o Have I made progress on the web site?

o How did I increase my project management skills?

o Class participation

o Helping with others projects.
