Title: Focus

Problem: Distractions get in the way of making progress on a project.

Context: Anybody working on a project, individually or in groups, can be distracted. Two major influences on focus are Environment and Perspective. Environment: If the home Environment is distracting, a change of scenery can be beneficial. A cafe or a restaurant can be a good work environment. Perspective: Lack of rest can negatively influence Attitude, as can lack of exercise and not eating right. Motivation is important for positive Attitude. For group work, Planning and an Agenda can help the group stay focused.

Discussion: It's easy to get distracted. When working alone, things like Internet, TV, food (or lack thereof), and roomates can be distracting. Sometimes, multi-tasking, or trying to do too many things at once, can detract from focus as well.

Solution: A clean, distraction-free work environment, plenty of rest and a good diet, exercise, and assigning ample time for leisure, so as to affect a positive Attitude.

Focus: How the individual can fight the evils of distraction whilst working on a project.

Forces: Family, friends, video games, TV, noise, and shiny objects.

Discussion: Distraction runs rampant in this modern society. It interferes with the average individual’s ability to complete their goals. Examples of this would be co-habitants in your domicile talking, working or generally being a distraction to you. A television activated and invading your space with its hypnotic flashing and an booming sound. Pets can distract you in a variety of ways, clawing, purring and being a general annoyance. These things can be avoided however through fairly conventional means.

Solution: You may ask your friends and family to give your some alone time to focus on your desired work. Lock yourself in your room if you have one, put the cats outside or satiate their hunger with treats or food. Turn off the TV and video games or leave the room that they occupy. If you still cannot focus and your project is portable, try leaving your current environment for a more secluded place where you may focus. If your project is not portable, try to keep entrances closed and wear ear muffs to cut out unwanted chatter. The important thing is to try to seclude yourself from the distractions while still be comfortable.
