"This book is about other, more ordinary uses for art and books and music -- about what they seem to do and how they seem to do it on a day-to-day basis. It is not about how they should work, or must work, just about the way they seem to have worked in my experience, and the ways that I have seen them work for others."

I find this quote very impressive. Hickey is able to condense three very criticized mediums all into one. He refers to them as “they.” The ability to critique all in one, in an essay is unique. Art has a particular critic, as do books and music. Only two of the mediums creators refer to themselves as artists. I think that Hickey gives authors great respect in lumping the categories of critique together.  I relate to Hickey’s laid-back attitude towards critiquing. He acknowledges the  fact that sometimes art, books, and music just tend to provide something for different people, They do not have to work for everyone. He realized that a certain medium may not affect people, but this does not mean that it is not succesfull. Hickey does not throw his opinions upon people, he regales specific tales about himself, and his personal opinion about art.
