What is the difference and what do you think about the seperation of installation art for beauty and entertainment and installation art that makes a political statement?

How do we create work as visual artsts that challenge peoples assumptions of their own enviorments by seeing beyond what is infront of them?

In the chapter "Exchange and Interaction" the author's dicuss the element of play in installaion art. They refer to the work of Simon Moretti where in his piece "A Space for Conversation" he laid out circular carpets and asked the visitors to work on a drawing project. This piece was signifigant in its space as it was laid out in the middle of a busy walkway in the Tate Modern Museum. the idea of this piece was very simple and something you might see in any pre-school class room. What I apprciated it for was its lack of that context. I believe play is essential for adults and installation could be an adult playground. the idea of art installation being about play and not sight specific can make installation artsits central in making more dynamic public spaces." Its unsuprrising that artsits are keen to work with flexiable boundries, a desire that begins to explain the rise of the art-project which can take any form, occur anywhere and, as Rirkrit Tiravanija states include "Lots of People.""(109) In Carsten Holler's work "Riesenpsychotank" the artsit creates experimental obstacle courses that excite the viewer as they learn and conduct experiments in these semi-scientific enviorments. This is a good example of an interactive piece that makes the viewer think and learn.

in Joelle Tuerlinckx work "In real time, Space Parts/ Night Cabin/ Solar-room" she plays with the idea of the gallery being a living enviorment and talks about weather conditions shifting the lighting. She shows a pictire of a red door with the sign "Door Closed" painted across it. i like the concept of this work. How it looks at the everyday occurence and brings it into a gallery space. It points at the un-natural enviroment art usually lives in (the gallery) and also makes viewers notice their surrondings.
