Week One Response To Readings

I find it very interesting that in "The Vow of Chastity," there are no requirements on exhibition other than that "The film format must be Academy 35mm." In a manifesto that stresses the importance of accessibility, it seems incomplete to not create guidelines for distribution and exhibition, which is a large part of the film process. I see film needing to conform itself in style and content to how it will be exhibited. Installation art will commonly grow to its space. In the same way, film must follow. It is typically detached from its exhibition space and thus the audience. Eventually, the line between film and video installations will blur and we will be brought into a new form of cinema where the place and form of viewing will be just as important as the content on the screen.

Questions:

What requirements should be removed/added/changed from/to/in Dogme 95's "The Vow of Chastity" to further its cause today?

What would you write up as requirements in a "Vow of Chastity" for installation art?
