Okay, okay I admit I enjoyed 'The White Cube' this week.  I found the discussion of Duchamp's "1,200 Bags of Coal" interesting.  I love how everyone was convinced the bags must have been stuffed with paper.  Also, with the mile string extravaganza O'Doherty kept raising good points about the other artists showing their work during Duchamp's reign.  Did they care? No one seemed to say anything.  How would any of you feel if you were displaying your pieces and your gallery space was taken over by string or bags of coal?  I wish I could have read this entire book before James Harris' guest lecture.  I feel as though he doesn't mind stepping outside of the white cube (painting his gallery walls black and whatnot) and I wonder how he would feel about this text.

I also enjoyed Barthes' text and ideas.  The concept of image and linguistics makes total sense.  I also liked how his image examples were of advertisements.  It helped me to understand better. I would like to discuss his idea a little more because even though I feel I understand the gist of it, I'm pretty sure I'm missing something big.
