Air Guitar is a pleasant surprise. The reading was unpretentious and easy to follow, just a man, writing about different Ideas and viewpoints on a sometimes rather overwhelming art world. My favorite quote was when Hickey stated “"I have never taken anything in a book to heart that was not somehow confirmed in my ordinary experience.” I believe that this is a universal experience. One does not connect to any form of literature unless they are able to personally connect to a passage, quote or story. For example, this quote made me connect to this collection of essays. Some people can love a book, others completely despise it, but this is based on their connection to the book. I like that he used the word ordinary in this quote. I take it to mean common and mortal, as opposed to some extravagant circumstance that connects on with the book. I give air guitar four and a half stars, because it was rather able to keep my attention. The frank and honest discussions in essay form reminded me of David Sedaris’ work, which made me eager to read.
