week 4 response
This week reading explains me a lot about the gallery space in-dept, which is interesting for me to know thinks that I haven't really considered when going to the gallery. Basically, this what I am getting out of this reading is that gallery spaces are not just a room with white walls and a bunch of hanging pictures. The reading keeps explaining about little details about the aspects of the space and the paintings that are in the space themselves. Many times that the reading mentioned about the gallery being some kind of spiritual place and has many methaphor within the relationship between the picture plane and the walls. One section that I didn't expected the book to go in detail is how the pictures are hanging creates the impression of the whole space "the breaking of the rectangle formally confirmed the wall's autonomy"(29). It keeps on talking about Stella's logic behind the canvases and results of each of them being arranged into a space. The feeling that I get from all of this is that the whole garelly space can be considered as one big art piece that contains many smaller works of art. The question is could you considered a gallery to be an "installation art"?
