week 8 response
The process an artist and style changing itself over time by the commercial are still the strongest theme in Hickey's discussions through out his essays. I am more interested in his notes about the musicians & music scenes in general because of being a musician myself and I have been experiencing some of what Hickey is mentioning. Reading Hickey's eassays about these issues are then dis-encouraging me becoming a real artist quite a bit. The music industry in my personal view has always been in a regular pattern of artists or styles are representing a partigular audience and becoming more about commercial success.
In the music business, it is not too surprising for the consumers to be influencial to the artists and the market itself. This could be one of the reasons why now days music and musicians tend to be leaning towards the spectators rather than more about artistic expressions in the works. Not to say that all of the artists tend to do that because that is not true, we all have seen many artists who are still maintaining their self-expression in thier own works but sadly we could not really regonize many of them compare to those who became successful in the commercial world.
