I don't get it. When I use analogies, they don't make sense, when someone else does it doesn't make sense, so maybe we should just all sit down and die right? It's fine to use analogies to bring out idea, or give it more meaning. ("Like is like a dick, if it's hard, fuck it. *that got me in trouble in middle school.*) But there is a time and place. The place being this book. It doesn't need to give us these adolescent analogies to "try and make us understand modernism" as he sees it. Over explaining art can make it hard to fully appreciate it when you see it. I don't need to be talked down to. Even if I understand only one word out of a whole monologue you go on about art, I feel better that you came to me thinking I'll understand.

Point of view means everything to an artist. Whether you created a picture that only shows its true beauty in the dead of night, or can only be seen in bright light. The idea of art being in a "secluded white space" scares me. Although having a specific area for art to be enjoyed is good, does having art in a "white box" make it any better then say, a graffiti painting sprayed on the black side of an abandoned warehouse? Framed images bring focus to the picture inside, but why do we need a form of white picket fence to know that whats inside, we're not supposed to touch, but look at from afar and marvel at at the pretty house inside. Art is art, no matter where you put it. Art shouldn't be on a scale, judged by how many museums want to have the piece. It should be seen as it is. If the Mona Lisa was pained on the side of the wall, would it be as worshiped as it is now? Or would it be just another form of graffiti?

I think I contradicted myself an awful lot with the analogy thing...maybe I should take it back.
