Over the Spring quarter, I dove strait into the soil and got farmiliar with my site. I spent a lot of time weeding which, though repetitive and backbreaking at points, taught me a lot about gardening. Weeding is such a neccessary process if you’re trying to keep a garden native. I had a long battle with Herb Robert, and have become aquainted with its smell. I read that people also call it stinky bob, but I didn’t think it smelt that bad, I actually kind of enjoyed the “stench.” Along with weeding I transplanted a plethora of native species into the garden. These include Northwest Bleeding Heart, Vanilla Leaf, and False Lily of the Valley. Most of these seem to be taking off, and I think that by next year there will be a bigger population of these plants. I moved the sign for Vanilla Leaf to a more appropriate area. The procurement people were nice enough to put little white signs by the Bleeding Heart and False Lily of the Valley. The only other stuff that I found about the area from earlier this year was from the winter, and they did pruning, and planning for the future.
