Mixed Forest A

Forests: An Introduction
Forests are divided into three different sections: a forest floor, an under story, and a canopy. The forest floor contains groundcovers, fallen leaves, shrubs, and fungi. The floors of forests are moist and shady, which are the perfect conditions for a wide array of life such as small insects and rodents. The understory is the section directly above the floor. In this section there are tree trunks, small trees and large shrubs, this area is populated by bigger animals such as deer, but also the home to frogs and larger insects. The canopy is what you see when you look up. This contains the big trees that give the shade to the area. The trees that stick up above all of this are called emergents and are populated by birds for the most part. All of these levels are very important for the forest ecosystem.
