Habitat/Theme Intro

The shady seasonal creek is located at the Eastern side of the garden, right in front and to the left of the Longhouse. The main trail splices the creek in two sections. Our section is the southern section, or shady section, of the seasonal creek. The creek is about 3-5 feet wide, and runs along the majority of the garden. This is a seasonal creek that runs along the wetland area, and water is only present through the winter and spring seasons There are several plants found in the shady seasonal creek site. Some include Sword fern, salmonberry, and salal that are found along both sides of the creek. Sedges are found in the water, as well as skunk cabbage. Red alder is located in the south-east part along the stream, along with Devil’s club. Colt’s foot, black cap, and gooseberry, bleeding heart, and bald hip rose, are all found between the west side of the trail and the stream bed. Red elderberry and big leaf maple tree are also found the eastside of the bank. .
