Project Log #8

Date: wed May 30th hours logged:6.5

activities: I did some intensive care on the garden this week that was much needed for the end of the quarter. I spent two hours on tuesday and went to the garden for another four and a half hours on wednesday. I spent a lot of the time cleaning up all the weeds that were around the salal that was planted last quarter, of which there were many, and finishing clearing out all of the weeds and bits of invasive grass up to in front of the big chicken of the woods/anthill log. In the space in front of the log, i planted kinnikinnick, because it seemed to be thriving quite well in a similar spot over by the prairies (lots of sun coverage, a bit rocky, lots of ground to cover...). I also plant bunchberry in with the Salal in the shadier area. I thought that i had seen bunchberry near salal before, and i asked Derek, and he said that he procured it from a place where it was growing amidst salal. I removed another big leaf maple, and continued to expand the walking path from the dry woodlands down into the riparian zone and oyster bed. I still plan on finishing this path and mulching it and, after my mushroom substrates have fruited, spawn them to logs to be planted in this area. I will be able to finish this before the end of eval week, and will hopefully be staying in the olympia area over the summer. it would b great to continue monitoring progress and tending to the space.
