Decorative Areas: Site Introduction

Area #1 contains a sign introducing the Longhouse. This area borders forest area. There is a gentle slope aprox 15 degrees.  The site is east from the LongHouse and may get about 2 hours of morning sun. The soil in site one appears dry and stressed. The color is dark and the dranage appears to be good. There are 2 sprinklers in the area. There are small vine maples. Ocean spray several ferns and salal. Evidence of birds in the area. Our feelings were mixed. Puzzled because we were not sure where our site began and where the mixed forest site started. Curiious about the plants that were there and excited about learning what we could put there.

Area 2 and 3 form a pac-man shape. The ground was wet and it appears that a hose has been in residence for quite some time. There was a lot of grass, so much so that we were not able to identify all of the plants that live in these 2 areas. The sites face NE and are the sites that surround the Longhouse. The areas are flat. We could not tell what type of soil due to the grass coverage. The plants in this site consited of mature and small vine maples. Trailing wild blackberrys. morning glory, ferns, strawberries, salal, cascara. We were anxious to attack the grass in this area to see what was underneath. We did not see evidence of any animals but there are probably small creatures who live in the grass.

Pictures were taken and a rough map drawn. These will be posted later.
