On August 28 and 30, we will continue with Timaeus and with "Platonism in Metaphysics" by Mark Balageur. I have handed out copies of Balaguer's article. (You can also find the article in The Standford Encycolpedia of Philosophy.)

Ending the quarter...

We will first be reading Protagoras and Meno. There are various translations, editions, and on-line versions. See the above link "Books" for the edition I will be using. If you use another, be sure that it includes marginal index numbers, so we can easily work on the same passages together.

The works by Plato we will use during the ten weeks of summer session will be: Protagoras, Meno, Phaedo, Republic, Timaeus, and Parmenides. (This is a bit different from the catalog copy.) This is the order in which we will use them, with Republic bridging the first and second summer sessions.

The Evergreen book store will have copies of our texts soon, but please get started on Protagoras. Bring a copy to our first class (read and marked up). Copies of any of our texts can be supplied by on-line bookstores, or you might find new or used copies locally.

We will meet on Tuesdays from 10:30 to 12:30 and 1:00 to 3:00, then on Thursdays from 12:00 to 2:00. All sessioins are in Sem 2 E2107. The first class will be on Tuesday, June 26.

If you have questions, please send me an email.
