Before starting to work on your web page, confirm that your web site has
been created:
- Bring up a browser. (Internet Explorer or Monzilla for example.)
- Go the Evergreen home page. (www.evergreen.edu)
- Near the top right corner, select the “Directories” link
- On the Directories page select the “Student, Faculty, Staff” link.
- Select the link to the first letter of your last name.
- Scroll down to see if you can find your name.
- Select the link to your name.
- If you haven’t worked on an Evergreen web page, this page should be mostly
empty.
Starting Dreamweaver
- Make sure you are logged on with your own user name
- Bring up Dreamweaver from the application menu
- Choose Site followed by New Site (Picture)
- Make sure that the “Basic” tab is selected
- On the first page give your site a name (Note that this can be anything.)
- Use academic.evergreen.edu/{first letter of last name}/{your user name} in other spot (Picture)
- Select “Next” button on the bottom of the page.
- On the next page select “No, I do not …” (Picture)
- Select “Next button of bottom of the page. (Picture)
- On the next page, select the second button, the one that says “Edit local
copies on my machine.. …”
- In the text box named "Where are your files ..." type in \\calawah\{first
leter of last name}\{user name}
- Note replace {first letter of last name} and {user name} with yours. (Picture)
- Select “Next” button at bottom of the page.
- Select "Local/Network" in first box
- In the text box named "What folder..." type in \\coyote\{first
leter of last name}\{user name}(Picture)
- On the next page select select "No do not ..." (Picture)
- You are now ready to create and/or work on your web site.
Pictures
- General Information
- To have the picture appear on your web page consistently, you should
first move it to your web directory. If you just refer to it from somewhere
else, it may not appear at all or it may go away when it is removed
from someone else's web page.
- If the picture is on the disk on your computer, it may look ok to
you but will not appear when someone looking at your web page from
another computer.
- Using a picture you have on disk - copy it to your calawah site (H:\mywebstuf)
- Using a picture you find on the internet using a browser
- Find the picture you want to put on your web page
- Right click on the picture and a menu should appear
- Choose save picture as or save
image as or something like that. The exact wording
depends on the browser you are using.
- Now save it to your Calawah site (H:\mywebstuf)
- You can now drag and drop the image on whatever page you are working
on or
- You move the cursor to the spot you want the picture to appear and
select Insert from the top
menu and select Image and browse to
select the image you want insert.
Creating and Linking New Pages
- Create a new page
- Select File from the top
menu
- Select New drop down menu
- Select the General tab
from pop up menu
- Select Basic and HTML
- Click on Create button
on bottom right
- Your page should now appear on the main Dreamweaver page
- You next title your page in the Title text
box on the top middle of your page. This will appear at the top
of the Browser when you look at it.
- You should also type some text on the page so you can identify it.
- Now save it to your Dreamweaver site. (Make sure you are in the correct
place or it might not appear when looking at your page from another
computer.
- Link it to your home page
- Find your home page in the Files tab
on the right side of the screen and double click on it to bring
it into the editing window
- The name should appear as a tab at the top of the editing window.
- Move the cursor to the place you want the link to appear
- Select Insert from the
top menu bar
- Select Hyperlink from the
insert menu
- In the Text box of the
popup type the text you want on your page
- On the right side of the Link box
click on the yellow file
icon and find the file name in the pop up box and select it.
- Skip the other boxes and select the OK button.
Saving and Linking Papers
- Bring up your portfolio page (See above)
- Create a new basic html page (See above)
- Bring up your paper using WORD or WEBX or EMAIL or whatever
- Copy and paste it into your new page
- Save it and link it to your portfolio page (See above)
External Links
- Create a new basic html page
- Title it
- Save it as your links page
- Link it to your home page
- Create some text on this page to identify it
- You might want to type in some categories now or later
- As you find places on the web you would like to link to this page, you
can highlight the address in the address bar and copy it
- Insert a hyperlink (See above)
- In the Links text box paste
the link you copied earlier
- Select the OK button.
Connecting to Dreamweaver from Home
- Start Dreamwever on your home compter
- Choose Site followed by New Site (Picture)
- Make sure that the “Basic” tab is selected

- Select “Next” button on the bottom of the page.
- On the next page select “No, I do not …” (Picture)
- Select “Next button of bottom of the page. (Picture)
- On the next page, select the second button, the one that says “Edit local copies on my machine.. …”
- On the next page select FTP for "How do you want to connect to the server?"
- In the text box named "Where are your files ..." type in a location on your computer.
- Under Name of hostname or FTP address type in academic.evergreen.edu/{first letter of user name}/{user name}
- Note replace {first letter of last name} and {user name} with yours. (Picture)
- Use your evergreen login password for "password"
- Select “Next” button at bottom of the page.
- On the next page select select "No do not ..." (Picture)
- You are now ready to create and/or work on your web site.
- If you have only one site, Dreamweaver should come up the next time pointed at that site.
