Thesis- Crew regularly second guessed the captain and officers because of inexperience, bad decisions and cruel actions.

Inexperience
pg 46 “…I imparted my opinion to capt. Gray hinting I thought it best to hove too till we might get altitude of the sun and determin our latitude but capt. Gray supposing us to the southward… carried a pressing sail alongshore to the Northward… when we observed in Latd. 50°22’ this confirmed my conjectures beyond a doubt.”
