EVENT: Call to Artists, Actors, Environmental Educators

This year's Priest Point Park environmental haunted hike, titled “To the Bottom of the Sound” seeks volunteers. The basic storyline of this year hike is that Budd, Eld and Henderson (early explorers and the three inlets in Olympia ) are trapped in Davey Jones’s locker at bottom of the Sound and are dying (due to poor water conditions). Hike participants are asked to rescue the three inlets, but first they must find out why they are ill and how they can get better. It’s a funny, kind-of-scary educational event that in the past has drawn hundreds of people.

We are looking for volunteers in the following areas:

To the interested actors: There will be a rehearsal on Saturday, October 13 from 1 to 3 pm. Lunch will be served at 12:30. The event is on Saturday, October 20th from 1 - approx. 7pm. At 1 pm we will have another rehearsal as well as the filming - all volunteers and actors will receive a dvd copy of the event. If it is raining buckets on the 20th, we will postpone the hike until Saturday, October 27th. If you are interested in acting, please send me an email, and I will send you a copy of the script as well as the available characters.

To interested artists: We need sunken boats, forests, factories, automobiles, water scenes, and much more. If you enjoy painting and drawing and have an eye for sets and attention to detail, please let me know. We will provide the materials, you will provide the talent. Let me know what times you are usually available, and I will organize a work party either at Evergreen (if possible), downtown or at Priest Point Park .

To interested volunteer educators: The drain dare is a fun and engaging teaching tool, but it doesn’t work unless, volunteers help children through the process. It is simple to learn and surprising how many kids “get it” and enjoy it. We need about 3 or 4 volunteers on Saturday, October 20th from 3:00 to approx 7 pm. If you are interested in teaching about water-quality in the south sound, please let email me know which days and times you are available for a brief-training downtown. We could also possibly do a training on the day of the hike around 2 pm. The rain date, if it is raining buckets on the 20th is set for, Saturday, October 27th.

If you are interested in any of these volunteer opportunities, please email Abigail Groskopf at agroskop@ci.olympia.wa.us or you can call 360.753.8454.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from some of you.
Abigail
