the humman mind and health

I believe that the human mind plays a huge role in the body being able to recover from illness. If you are sick and don’t mentally feel like you are going to kick that bug out of your system, then the cold has a tendency to linger. This is a hard belief to prove because of the many variables that exist in human subjects, especially in looking at connection between personal thoughts or brain activity in regards to immune health. There have been studies that show how mental stress affects the immune system in negative ways, which is a step in the direction of proving that mental and physical health is related. Similarly, studies have been done with cancer patients looking at how faith and religion can affect their recovery. Results with this kind of research tend to be inconclusive, and maybe this is because one’s mental thoughts have limits to the kind of assistance that can be provided during microbial and viral wars in the body. Although it is hard to prove that there are correlations between one’s positive mental thoughts and their quick recovery from illness, I think that we should not disregard this idea. Much of society relies on science to create a miracle pill to fix every illness, yet there is still no cure for the common cold. In situations where there seems to be no cure, when your body is weak, see if being mentally positive about the situation improves your physical well-being. We should not forget the power that our mind has on our bodies.
