I Believe….
I believe that music is good for the soul, mind, body, and overall good for human beings. Music has been a huge factor in my life, for it produces many wonderful experiences. Our body is like a symphony, equipped with different rhythms and sounds that produce a wonderful work of art; this work of art is you. You are a walking musical piece that requires stimulation through outside sounds and rhythm. I believe music is more capable to enlighten your body and soul through melody and tempo. Without music your body/soul would not be as lively, since it is harder to speak to your soul through words.
Music has multiple elements that relate to the human body. A song has a tempo and beat which relates to your heart and the pumping of your organs. A song also has a melody which resembles the flow of your blood and your cells working together. When there are words in a song, this relates to your thoughts, emotions, and language. All extra elements to a song are the motion of your soul and toes dancing to the beat. I believe the reason humans are so engaged by music is because music was inspired by the natural ways of the sounds of the river flowing, frogs ribbiting, trees swaying in the wind, etc., humans recognized this as joy to their ears, and from this formed different sounds to produce a musical piece.
Music is a wonderful approach for therapy and healing. When I am unable to express myself, and even more so when I am feeling upset; it helps significantly listening to a favorite song. It is also not pleasant to build up negative emotions, fortunately music has a way of soothing my soul by relaxing my thoughts and feelings. I believe this is because when a song is being played it stimulates your current state of body and mind. Music adds different elements of sound that can arouse that specific area in your body that is feeling a certain emotion. Also when you listen to a favorite tune, and are in a current state of ecstasy, you feel as if you are on top of the world.
There is a well-known study that music helps calm your newborn baby. Many parents will tell you that music has been the most effective way to soothe their baby’s crying and discomfort. Even when a baby is not fussing, it is very wise to introduce your baby to music at a young age; for it will encourage curiosity and interest in music, and enhance cognitive skills. You can also try singing to your baby. Your baby has been familiarized by your voice ever since it was a delightful little fetus in the womb, so this can potentially calm your baby immensely. Not only is music helpful for the baby when it is crying, but also for the parent. The parent possibly stirred up jumbled emotions while hearing their child in ache.
Keep in mind that different people like different music, so your baby will also show a sign of what pleases them or not. It is a good idea to play a variety and see what the baby shows interest in, if he/she does not stop crying after a while, they must not like that type of music or artist. My mother told me when I was a child that the only band that got me to sleep was the Ramones, and they are not the lullaby type. So it is always good to try new genres!
Other than westernized societies, like the United States of America; the whole world uses music as a healing mechanism. Generally different cultures only use the voice for the process of improving your health. However, they often use drums or a singing bowl, for these two instruments provide a soothing, rhythmic tone. Music is a very treasured passion for me, and it excites me to just think about all of the possibilities music can provide my soul with.
