The Broadway show, August Osage County was seen Sunday at the Music Box Theater. This is a play about an extremely dysfunctional family having to come together after the father’s suicide. The range of the 13 characters adds enough chaos to this dark humored play. While it’s not a comedy, the audience roared with laughter especially at Violet Weston, the mother, who was played by Deanna Dunagan. It was a lot of fun to watch the interactions between the family for which some things were like all families in the sense of keeping secret who one is dating and others were more pertaining to this family. For instance, the granddaughter is vegetarian because she doesn’t want to ingest the fear of the animal or the story of how 3 parakeets died under the mom's care. The characters were each funny in their own slightly depressing quirky way and the twists in this 3 act play made it that much more enriching and amusing to watch. I would highly recommend this play to anyone who has either come from a strange chaotic family or one that enjoys watching the inner workings and interweaving of a complicated family life.
