Our Town Play--Proposed Changes: Husband and Wife scene:

We were talking in our group how we would like to see the wife have some internal dialogue after she called her husband for the third time.  Here is my proposal.

Angela:  “Dave you ok?......

Internal dialogue spoken out- loud.  “I have called Dave three times.  I hate it when he just ignores me.  There is no way he didn’t hear me.  Here I am slaving away making dinner while he is just relaxing.  Well, maybe I want to relax too.  I had my grandson all day.  Even though I love him a lot, he can be very busy.  Dave is just so inconsiderate.  He obviously doesn’t care about me at all!”  Fumes and bangs a pot.  Visibly upset but trying to cool off.  “OK.  I need to calm down.  What is really going on?  Of course Dave loves me.  Just last week he made dinner while I relaxed because I had a tough day.  In fact, he is often considerate of my feelings.  I need to remember that this week has been a very hard week at work and he said today was so stressful he hardly had time to eat lunch.    He really needs this downtime.  I’m pretty sure he isn’t trying to be rude; in fact, he’s probably just really into his woodworking project.   I’ll wait a few seconds and try again.”

Follow script.

Maybe change a little what the narrator says but keep the point.

Note:  After reading over the script again, I like it, so if you all do not want to change it I am ok with keeping it as the original.  It didn’t sound so Pollyannaish after all.

I wondered if we had the script for the Mrs. Gibbs and Emily part yet….from the play “Our Town”.
