Three Blessings

Day 1

My old friend Josy had two healthy twin girls!

I got enough sleep last night. Ahh

A friend who was staying with us found an apartment and is outta here!

Day 2

Class was canceled! I am coming down with a cold and needed those two hours to myself!

My two cats are bathing themselves at the edge of the bed and it’s a sweet moment.

Shaun arrives early from school and makes me soup. Yum!

Day 3

My mom calls and says that things are looking better for my Grandpa. Finally!

I had a really nice talk with my mom.

I am going to leisure read in like 2 seconds.

Day 4

Shaun and I are addicted to the show Lost and watch what we had recorded.

Work was good, it’s been hectic lately and trying. Spirits were up.

Realize I will be married in 8 months-wowzer!

Day 5

My sister leaves me a really funny message on my cell phone which brightened my day at work.

My boss mentioned that I should apply for an upcoming promotion.

I got my eyebrows waxed.

What I really got out of the interventions: how rewarding it is to stop and take a closer look at your world, instead of going to bed thinking about worries etc. I focused on the blessings that happen in my life each day: what a sound way to end the day! I have never had much patience for journal writing, but jotting down 3 blessings every night was really doable. Maybe I’m imagining it, but I think I slept better too, and I inspired Shaun (he didn’t want to be left out J), so he jotted down his blessings too. It was fun to compare them.

 Gratitude letter

In thinking about who I should write a gratitude letter right now to, I chose my fiancé Shaun. He is wholly supportive of me and us, tons of fun, and my best friend. We moved to Olympia in 2004 to finish undergraduate school. We moved from Austin, Texas with our two cars and just what would fit in them. We communicated on walkie-talkies the whole way here and stopped at family and friends houses. It was a fun adventure. Our first place was a dump, but we made the most of it and looking back it’s all pretty funny. One of the sweetest memories of that first place with him which I shared in my letter was Shaun boiling water. I was feeling really awful, and the only thing that would cure me was a nice hot bath, but our hot water heater was half the size of a normal one! I was pissed. And then alas a knock at the door it’s Shaun with BOILING WATER WOW!! I was so touched! What a thoughtful thing to do. Gestures like that that really make a difference: so simple, but so genuine. I also expressed how grateful I am to be with someone with a sense of humor. Sometimes when I am down Shaun will make up a silly song on the guitar about one of our cats or the happenings of the day, and it instantly makes me laugh, which relieves any tension I was feeling. He is really my best friend, supportive, loving, kind, considerate, silly, gentle, and wonderful. I am so grateful that I have him in my life. I can’t remember what life was like without him in it. I’m grateful for that too. I read him the letter over dinner at our house. It felt really good to organize these feelings and express them aloud. And he was touched by it too. Win-win!
