]]> 0 nakasonr <![CDATA[What is Persistence: Summerwork?]]> http://blogs.evergreen.edu/persistence/?p=23 2009-06-11T07:53:40Z 2009-06-11T07:53:40Z It’s title is Persistence: Summerwork.  Students in the program study what’s interesting to them, and faculty help if asked.  Students may take it for 16 credits for the full summer, or 8 for either session.  We invite students to come to class, but attendance is not required. It begins on Tuesday June 23rd at 1pm at the Organic Farm.  This is a student centered pedagogy, which means each student has the power to determine their academic agenda.  This is the Native American approach to education.

This is a continuation of the Persistence program from the academic year, and it is open to new students wishing to participate in a student-centered pedagogy. This is not a program for students looking for an external, faculty-given pedagogical structure; students will take a very personal stake in their educational development and make their own educational decisions. Travel to Peru, not necessary for enrollment in the program, offers access to communities in northern Peru to experience life in safe and healthy pueblos. This course allows students to choose the direction and goal of their research, including upper-division and graduate study.
