Reminder: Research Proposal Due Friday, Week 4.
While volunteering with your community organization, discuss project ideas with your contact person, formulate questions, and prepare a project proposal. Your project proposal should include the name of the organization and the contact details of your contact person, in addition to a one page summary of what you intend to do with the organization on weekly basis. State your research question and the type of data you will use to answer it. (due: Fri. January 29th)

The cohort meets Thursday at 9am at Lecture Hall 1. After the cohort presentation, we will divide into discussion groups to work with students and faculty from the other cohort programs. (See the list below.)
We re-assemble Thursday at 12:30 in Sem2 E2105. At that time we'll be talking about the short reading by Annette Baier.

As you begin looking for places to do your community-based volunteer project, it's important to think about both what you will get out of it and what the organization you're working with will get out of it. Here's a link to an article in the
New York Times
about how student volunteers can really help (or hinder) the work of community service organizations. We'll have a visit on Thurs. afternoon from two people who work at the Center for Community Based Learning and Action, with lots of ideas about places where your volunteer work will be appreciated.
