Because of this, intellectuals will believe they better understand the needs of society and usurp the most power, also raising the accepted level of speech and grandeur. Finally, deliberation has become dispassionate and disembodied as people believe they must hold themselves and their personal emotions apart from the decisions they are making. "They tend to presuppose an opposition between mind and body, reason and emotion. They tend falsely to identify objectivity with calm and absence of emotional expression."
