Sources of moral conflict
From Internet: Knowledge and Community
Gutman and Thomson debunk the idea that moral conflict is caused by differences within self-interest. Hume accredits moral conflict not to "certain kinds of societies, but more fundamental and more nearly universal features of societies. Hume is also convincing when he claims that among those features are scarcity of resources and the limited generosity of human nature." The authors believe that it goes farther than this. They believe the source of moral conflict can be found "within morality itself."
