This holds that (1) basic equal rights are essential and (2) inbalances when it comes to power, authority, and wealth are only justified if they ultimately benefit the greater good, particularly society's underprivilaged. According to this theory there is nothing wrong with a few benefitting heavily as long as those not so fortunate are also benefitting in some way as a result.
