D.J.E. Library Investment in News Sources

A fulltext database allows the library to offer more than twice as many journals as it does currently for a 15% increase in expenditures. Evergreen has already made a huge shift towards databases and away from subscriptions to physical periodicals. This is totally a good call to cut costs and open up room in the library for cool stuff [1]

The New York Times on Campus

Evergreen offers complimentary print editions of The New York Times on campus in addition to subscribing to databases which offer the newspaper online. I believe this is a good because it offers a convenient (fairly objective) daily news source that encourages political and social awareness. Additionally, consuming and interpreting a print newspaper involve reading skills not always used when interpreting the news online or through a broadcast.
