Looks great folks. Very thorough and I really like how everything is explained so clearly. very accessible. I just have a few random stuff that I think you have already covered anyways.

Some nocturnal mammals have such a big eye to gather the few photons that are available, they can't move their eyes...of course they make up for it by being able to move their head around almost 360 (tarsiers have the largest eye to body size of any creature i believe)

nocturnal mammals are the older ancestors of current mammals that are diurnal?

slit pupils versus round pupils: which requires more effort to close? nictitans membrane as protection from glare during day light. i think some monkeys are so sensitive to light that they will go blind if put outside.

good coverage of rods versus cones, visual acuity differences etc. note that the spectral shift is changed with mostly rods. How is it shifted? when a fruit bat looks at a lemon tree, the leaves look brighter than the lemons, when a badger looks at a buttercup (which i am sure they do often) the stems are brighter than the flower. Why?

blind as a bat...true? I know that fishing bats can detect small ripples in water and dive in and get fish. can they accommodate?

notice how most nocturnal mammals are not very colorful...don't need it for attracting mates?

Nocturnal mammal folks. Please look at the google doc for last little bits to pick up before finishing this project and I have also put Mikes comments there so that we can figure out who is going to answer what. - Russell

  • If you click on the Nocturnal Mammals link at the bottom of this page it will take you to a list of related pages on the wiki. --Harjus25 00:19, 16 November 2011 (PST)
  • Created some headings for sections of the wiki, which can be changed as needed. Added a link to wikipedia's list of nocturnal animals under the external links heading. Inserted an example picture of a nocturnal animal with a unique anatomical feature, lack of a tapetum lucidum. --Harjus25 00:19, 16 November 2011 (PST)

Yo who wants to tell me how to put in a photo? Justin. I'm lookin' at you.

Sure thing. On the left side menu, click upload file. Then just select the file and upload. Insert it using the tag [[File:FILENAME|thumb|right| TEXT]]. Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I saw you trying to put something in an tried to fix it before I bothered looking here. --Harjus25

I cant figure out how to get a border around my picture and add some text beneath the picture in the photo transduction section, the text is on our google docs underneath the picture. I'm spending way to much time trying to learn to speak "wiki" if anyone can help I would appreciate it. thanks Simeon
