ARCHIVE - All Campus Mentoring Day-Wednesday, Week 9

All Campus Mentoring Days March 6th and May 15th , 1:00-4:00 p.m. Before the Academic Fairs on Wednesdays, March 6th and May 15th, Evergreen faculty will host All-Campus Mentoring Day on the Olympia campus is next Wednesday, March 6th from 1-4 pm (the Academic Fair follows immediately afterwards from 4-6). All students are invited to participate in broad, theme-based sessions led by faculty. New students who participated in the Orientation Week groups that faculty led this past fall will have brief reunions, followed by mentoring and discussion sessions for all students conducted by small groups of faculty. ARCHIVE - Animation Comments on homework

I have just completed viewing all After Effects homework from week one. Nice job, everyone! These are delightful.
If you completed this assignment and put it in the file folder as requested, I evaluated it and left a note for you (text file) in that folder in your cubby about it. A few of you had already completed the sequence due next week and I also evaluated some of those (but not all!).

What I notice as common missteps are these:

Not everyone is making sure that all the assets they are working with in a project file end up in the assets folder that they make for that file. It’s a good idea to make an assets folder before you start and place all the elements you think you might want to use in it. Do not import something that is not already in your assets folder!
When using a composition (aka a “precomp”) to make an object that will be nested and animated in a larger composition, make it the smallest size possible that fits the scale of the object to facilitate your manipulation of it.
Label your layers!

Attention Students who were in this program Fall quarter!

The Academic Statement Mentor Council is inviting you to come participate in a student discussion and reflection on fall quarter. Trajectories in Animation, Mathematics, and Physics was part of the Academic Statement initiative during fall quarter. Your faculty worked with you to help you think and write critically about your education, as well as reflect on it with purpose.

We would like to hear your thoughts and ideas about your experiences with this work in your program! This is an important opportunity to hear feedback and your creative ideas for the future.

Please come and participate in an open forum to discuss your experiences with fellow students and members of the Mentor Council! This is your opportunity to shape activities for next year and suggest ideas for the upcoming spring quarter mentoring day event. There will be tasty refreshments too!

Time: 12 pm to 1:15 pm (Calculus students, we know you’re in class until 1, but it’s okay to come late; there will be refreshments and an opportunity to participate until 1:45.)

Chris Sullivan’s film Consuming Spirits has screened in the Big Apple, a major achievement for an independently produced animation. You may be interested in reading this review of it in The New York Times this week.

ARCHIVE - Media Services Thanksgiving Break Hours

For those of you considering working on your animation project over break, take note of these holiday closures and/or reduced hours:

Media Loan: CLOSED. The last chance to checkout equipment/keys, and reserve time in the production facilities is on Saturday, 11/17, from 9:00am – 1:45pm. Checkouts for the break week will be treated as a long weekend checkout, so no Extended Loan Request is needed.

Electronic Media Support Desk: CLOSED

Multimedia Lab: CLOSED

Library 24-Hour Suites and 2d Animation Labs: Open through Wednesday 11/21, CLOSED Thanksgiving Day through Sunday, 11/25.

Ruth will be out of town on Tuesday October 30th, so in her absence you have an exercise to complete and a follow-up homework assignment that you can find here. Remember that Group A sketchbooks are due for review Tuesday of week 7, and Group B sketchbooks are due for review Tuesday of week 8.
