ATOMS, MOLECULES & RESEARCH (AMR) - A LEARNING COMMUNITY IN UPPER DIVISION CHEMISTRY

Program Faculty:

Introduction:

"Atoms, Molecules and Research" (AMR) is an year-long, upper division chemistry program for junior and senior undergraduates. The theme of this program is "what does a chemist do?" In all aspects of the program, students will be exploring the connections between what they are learning in the class room and how this knowledge is applied by chemists in different working environments. The program has an extensive lab component. Students can take the lecture portion of the program for part-time credit.

"Atoms, Molecules and Research" program was designed to provide the advanced preparation students need to pursue careers in chemistry and chemical engineering. It will also be useful for students considering careers in medicine, biochemistry or chemical physics.

Home Room:

AMR students have a "homeroom" in Lab I, Room 1055. Students can gather here for academic activities such as doing homework, writing lab reports, sharing lab data, practicing research presentations, making posters and meeting with the program tutor. Social activities are encouraged although students must understand that this is a "quiet room" that is primarily provided for academic work. A computer networked to the Computer Applications Lab (CAL) is available in the room. Faculty will leave information regarding graduate schools, job opportunities and internships in this room.

Credits:

48 quarter hours total (16 per quarter), all upper division science credits
