Under the close supervision of a chemistry faculty member, each student will carry out an independent research project during the winter and spring quarters. Students will meet biweekly to discuss their progress and to present their work informally to the class. At the end of the winter quarter students will give a formal oral presentation of their work. During the spring quarter students will present the results of their research at the 1996 American Chemical Society (ACS) undergraduate research symposium in the form of a technical talk (this year the ACS meeting will be held at the University of Puget Sound). At the end of the academic year, a poster presentation will be held where each student will present his/her research in the form of a poster.
The literature survey for the research project will be done during the fall quarter in the Library Research Methods module of this program.
During the spring quarter, students will learn how to prepare a homepage on the World Wide Web (www) for their research projects. These web sites will be available for browsing to all AMR students. Each student will be given the opportunity to make their web site available for global access if he/she so chooses.
