Water in the Humanities in Three Days or Less

Step Two: Entering Reference Land

Research is like a pyramid. The foundation of it is your background information, the next layer is secondary sources like books, the third layer is secondary sources like journal articles, the fourth is any primary sources you find, and the fifth is your analysis. Keep this frame work in mind as we work.

Our library has a select reference section to help at the beginning of your research. To use it:

  1. Find a book near your general topic online
    • The Early Christian Church by John Gorden Davies, call number BR165.D37
  2. Go to that call number in the reference section and look at the books around it.

Here I found enough information to get me going. Click here to see exactly what I found.

Some key words I found that might be helpful include:
  • purification
  • baptism
