Printmaking

The monoprinting workshop was created for musicians and artists to learn how to monoprint. During the Fall Quarter, monoprinting was mainly for musicians to learn how to monoprint, as a way of learning a medium that is not familiar to them. By Winter Quarter, the monoprinting workshop was open to both artists and musicians. Joe Feddersen teaches the workshop every Thursday afternoon helping his students work with color and composition. Many of the artist's monoprint to relate the process to their painting and incorporate it as a part of their advanced work.

Photography

The photography workshop was created for the Fall Quarter program for musicians to learn an art medium that they don't normally use. The workshop helps the musicians to experience photography by learning how to use a camera and take pictures effectively. The musicians also learn how to develop their own film, use the darkroom, and mount their pictures. Joe Feddersen also taught the Photography workshop, teaching them the importance of photography and critiquing them on their work.

Gamelan

The gamelan workshop was designed for students to learn how to play music from another culture. The type of gamelan that the students play is Indonesian and is taught by Sean Williams. The gamelan ensemble consists of seven instruments: the kendang, jenglong, gong, panerous, bonang, peking, and suling. The notation consists of numbers, not the Westernized notation. Fall quarter, the gamelan workshop was mainly for the artists who were split into two groups. By Winter Quarter, the musicians were included into the gamelan workshop and practiced separately from the artist groups. In the Spring, all the groups will perform in public playing the pieces they have learned.

Wood/Metal Shop

The wood/metal workshops were created Winter Quarter for the students in the program to make musical instruments. The musical instruments are a way for the students to learn to create and understand the visual elements of the instruments, as well as the sound. The students learn artistically as well as musically. Also, the musicians and artists work together and collaberate to learn from each other's ideas and knowledge. Furthermore, the workshops help the student become more proficient and skilled using the tools in the shops. The workshops are taught by Doug, who is the head faculty in the wood and metal shop.
