Jan. 23, 1864 - Washington Territory made a law: An Act to protect free White labor against competition with Chinese Cooline labor and to discourage the immigration of Chinese into this territory.

The Burlingame Treaty made it easier for Chinese people to enter the US.

1868  
  1870s Northern Pacific Railroad hires hundreds of Chinese laborers
  1880s Economic Depression in NW.
The Chinese Exclusion Act

  Feb. 9, 1886

Sheriff Billings patrolled against anti-Chinese riots in Olympia

Congress expanded Exclusion Laws to last forever.

1902  
San Francisco earthquake destroys immigration records. Chinese emigrants falsely claim citizenship known as: Paper Sons.
1906  
  1913 Final location of Olympia's Chinatown is located on Water St.
Japanese Occupation of China.
1930s Many Chinese businesses close due to the Great Depression, and many of them move to Seattle.
  1934 Sam Fun Locke "the mayor of Chinatown" dies in Olympia.
US Congress repeals Chinese Exclusion Laws.

Communist victory in China. Cultural Revolution.

Civil Rights Act inspires minorities to speak out, including Asian-Americans.
1964  
  1974 Olympia Area Chinese Fellowship is founded.
China's ruler Mao Tse-Tung dies.

China Open Door Policy opens trade between China and USA.

  1996 In Washington State, Gary Locke becomes the first Chinese-American Governor.
