01/27/06 Madison Elementary The children were just comming in from their brake to take their spelling quiz. 1 Child was not taking the quiz so we pointed it out to Mrs. Ideker. It turns out he was far more advanced and needed a different list to be quizzed on. Peou assisted with that. It is amazing how many children are in one classroom (30 for 1 teacher).
02/01/06 Madison Elementary Upon arrival we went straight to work on creating stencils on construction paper for their upcoming art projects. They will be making Abe Lincoln and George Washington in honor of President's Day. We worked ont that the entire time and did not get it finished. I find it amazing how much time in energy goes into a class this large.
02/02/06 Madison Elementary Today we went to work with two small groups just outside the classroom on the kidney shaped tabels. Victoria walked by and we were able to say hi. It was fun seeing someone from class doing the same thing at the same time. It felt rewarding. The children we weighing pre-designated objects to see what their weight in grams was on a set of scales. The girl closest to me out of the first group was a challenge. She was smart but not into the lesson she was not paying attention because she was focused on going to her next class with her next teacher. One time she even suck across the hall into that room and I had to go get her to have her finish the assignment.
02/08/06 Madison Elementary Today we assisted in the planting of the Sourwood tree. It was nearby their classroom, in a location that the arborists had picked. You could breathe the excitment in the air.
2/10/06 Madison Elementary I went to school today even though I am terribly nautious. The only time I was able to go was during their lunch time. But I caught Anita in time and was directed to correcting pre-WASL tests. When the children came back I gave Jason the gifted child, his advanced spelling quiz. By then my time was up! How it feels as if I am here for only 10 minutes!
3/09/06 Olympia 1st Heart Walk Meeting for fundraiser voulenteers. This is my other project. I want to help make a difference fighting Heart Disease. I have seen what it has done to my Dad's quality of life and watching him go through that has been awful. Our goal between 5 people is to raise $6,000.00 dollars!
3/09/06 Madison Elementary Taking pictures and really absorbing the whole school for the first time was amazing. For such a small school with over crowded classrooms and limited supplies. The building is beautiful, the art on the walls... amazing, and the architchure of the building breath taking in the library vaulted hall. It felt like being in a Catholic Church. Just breathtaking.
