Arts, Environment and the Child: Walking the Wheel of the Seasons

Curriculum Work

This quarter I have decided to work with Pre-Schoolers! At first i thought this was going to be a little bit easier then the kindergartners until I entered the classroom. There are 17 rambunctious kids ranging in age from 2 ½ to 5. This is quite a challenge to come up with a curriculum to do with this diverse age group. While some can write there letters and some have no clue what a letter even is. I decided to start from the top. Each week there is a new letter. I put up a board above circle time with a giant letter of the week. Then I talk to them about the letter. What it sounds like and some words that start with that particular letter. Drawings are also placed up on the board so that they can have a visual of the letter and the word.
After the kids have learned the letter, we do projects pertaining to that letter.
