Visualizing Ecology Fall Quarter (2006)Major Assignments Assignments to be completed every week: 

Complete seminar reading.

Post commentary (weeks 2, 3, 4) or essay (weeks 6, 7, 8, 9) on seminar reading to forum by Sunday at 5 pm.

Post replies to at least two commentaries or essays on seminar readings to forum by Monday at 5 pm.

Complete technical drawing assignment for drawing workshop.

Complete expressive drawing assignment for drawing workshop.

Complete nature journal assignments, including weekly field trip report, and bring to drawing workshop each week.

Prepare for lab quiz and/or submit worksheets completed during lab.

Compile all materials in program portfolio for mid-quarter and final conferences.  Assignments to be completed over fall quarter: Week 3:

Tuesday, Oct. 10, 9 am: Rough draft of personal essay on relationship to nature (5 pages). Bring one copy to lecture to share with other students.

Friday, Oct. 13, 9 am: Submit final draft of personal essay on relationship to nature to your seminar leader. Attach rough drafts and peer reviews.

 Week 4:

Wednesday, Oct. 18, to Friday, Oct. 20: Field trip to Pack Forest and Mt. Rainier.

 Week 5:

Monday, Oct. 23 or Tuesday, Oct. 24: Mid-quarter conference with seminar leader. Bring portfolio and nature journal to conference.

Tuesday, Oct. 24: First academic advising meeting with Haley Lowe. Prepare material for self-directed learning plan.

 Week 6:

Sunday, Oct. 29, 5 pm: Post rough draft of argumentative essay (3 pages) to forum.

Thursday, Nov. 2: Second advising meeting with Haley Lowe.

Thursday, Nov. 2: Bring copy of argumentative essay to writing workshop.

Friday, Nov. 3, 5 pm: Submit final draft of argumentative essay with attached rough draft and peer review to your seminar leader.

 Week 7:

Sunday, Nov. 5, 5 pm: Post rough draft of argumentative essay (3 pages) to forum.

Tuesday, Nov. 7, 1:30 pm: Bring copy of argumentative essay to seminar.

Wednesday, Nov. 8, 5 pm: Submit final draft of argumentative essay with attached rough draft and peer review to your seminar leader.

 Week 8:

Sunday, Nov. 12, 5 pm: Post rough draft of argumentative essay (3 pages) to forum.

Tuesday, Nov. 14, 1:30 pm: Bring copy of argumentative essay to seminar.

Wednesday, Nov. 5, 5 pm: Submit final draft of argumentative essay with attached rough draft and peer review to your seminar leader.

 Week 9:

Sunday, Nov. 26, 5 pm: Post rough draft of argumentative essay (3 pages) to forum.

Tuesday, Nov. 28, 1:30 pm: Bring copy of argumentative essay to seminar.

Wednesday, Nov. 29, 5 pm: Submit final draft of argumentative essay with attached rough draft and peer review to your seminar leader.

Friday, Dec. 1, 9 am or 1 pm: Rough draft of species-area curve lab report due at beginning of lab.

 Week 10:

Monday, Dec. 4, 5 pm: Final draft of species-area curve lab report due to Kevin or Steve.

Thursday, Dec. 7, 9 am: Submit complete portfolio, nature journal, and self-evaluation to seminar leader.

 Week 11 / Evaluation Week

Final evaluation conference with seminar leader. Submit faculty evaluations for all faculty to seminar leader or to program secretary (Pam Udovich in Lab I, 1015).
