Nature Journal

Each student will keep a nature journal that includes the following types of assignments:

    1)  Technical drawing assignments (weekly)
    2)  Notes from work discussions of art work (weekly)
    3)  Field Trip observations:
                        -basic notes about the goals of the field trip, the location, presentations and
                         fieldwork assigned;
                        -artistic descriptions of the site using all of your senses;
                        -visual research sketches for the expressive drawing assignments.
    4)  Lab Drawings
    5)  Individual site visit notes and drawings (begins Week 5)

The nature journal should be kept in a spiral sketchbook (9” x 12”) or on sketchbook quality paper in a three-ring binder.  Feel free to add fold out pages as necessary.

The first page should be a title page with your name, the dates covered by the journal, and your contact information.  (If found, please return this journal to…..)

Leave the first three pages blank to be used later to enter a table of contents.

Each entry should begin with a description of the assignment so that an outside reader can understand your journal.

Bring your nature journal to each drawing class, field trip and lab.  Lucia will check your assignments after each drawing class.  You may pick them up at your work station by 5 pm in the art studio.  Steve and Kevin will check your assignments in lab.
