It’s Personal!

Exploring Duality: Growing Up as a Female Halfie During the Tech Revolution

This will be an experimental piece exploring the fragmented identity of growing up in a culture of so many dualisms, projections, and false perceptions, and the attempt to find self-identity in an increasingly impersonal isolated technological society.  I will also be exploring the relationships between male and female, definitely drawing from personal experience, attempting to convey and analyze the emotions that accompanied those engagements, especially in terms of sexuality and perception. For example, the struggle of representing oneself as a female in a phallocentric society.

I will be exploring the dualities of the Eastern versus Western ideologies/cultures, exploring the contrast between my two cultures, American and Filipino, as well and modernity versus traditional values.

Aspects of the project will be influenced by the Absolute Film movement and it’s use of abstract color, form, and motion as a visual language.  There will be performance utilizing chroma key techniques, pixilation, and usage of mirrors.
